Plein Air “Still Life and Landscape” with Guido Frick

September 21-22, 2021 10am-4pm

In this 2-Day workshop, renowned artist Guido Frick will teach you how to interpret and translate what you are seeing to the canvas and develop your own artistic language.  He will discuss the use of colors, values, mood, drama and atmosphere when painting outdoors.

Day 1 – There will be an introduction and theoretical instruction followed by a demo, then you will paint. Meet at Art Center Morro Bay where location will be announced.

Day 2 – A full landscape demo will be provided. You will then paint a full plein air landscape Guido will circulate giving personal instruction.  At the end of each session your work will be critiqued to give you individual ideas and personalized help. 

All levels are welcome. You may choose to paint in oils or acrylics; also, watercolor.

About the Instructor

Guido Frick was born in Konstanz, Germany. He studied art in Prague Czechoslovakia, under the tutelage of Professor Karel Hodr, a well-known Impressionist and Professor Hans Sauerbruch, an artist with very unique drawing skills.  In the early 1980´s he met with famous instructor and painter Sergei Bongart, and still considers this encounter as the most influential experience he has ever had as a painter.

Frick has been referred to by Professor Emeritus Dr. Janos Herczeg; University of Szeged, Hungary as the “living” Bongart.

A full-time artist, who lives half the year in Europe and travels the other half through America’s western states, Guido Frick has been featured in Art Journey America Landscapes: 89 Painters’ Perspectives by Kathy Kipp, and Maler sehen den Bodensee: 200 Jahre Landschaftsmalerei aus privatem Besitz by Carlo Karrenbauer.  He has also been featured in Southwest Art, American Artist Workshop, Art of the West, Art Talk, Western Art Collector magazine, and in Oil Painting with the Masters by North Light Books.
